In its continuing push for greater transparency, YouTube is adding a notification to signify if a channel is receiving government or public funding.
More informed users
At the moment the new feature is being rolled out to US users, and is meant to give viewers stronger tools to be critical of new sources, via a new notice to appear below videos.
YouTube wants to keep growing support for news publishers with a responsible approach meant to provide the strongest content possible.
Users and publishers both have the capability to send feedback to YouTube, and there are plans to extend this feature in the future.
Better breaking news
YouTube launched “Breaking News” back in late-2017 which prominently surfaced on home pages across the site with “Top News” highlighted from quality preapproved sources.
Though in its early stages, the measures to maintain quality sources represents one of many steps YouTube will be taking in 2018 to ensure reliable content.
As users continue to consume their news online, a bit of re-education will go along way to making sure balanced reporting is what’s breaking, rather than users' patience.
Do you get your news on YouTube? What’s your opinion on the new notifications? Give us your thoughts in the comments below.
