Context Cards to redefine Snapchat

Snapchat has unveiled Context Cards, giving users a new way to discover all kinds of info about shared snaps.

Snaps tell you more

From Uber and Lyft bookings to restaurant reviews and reservations, Context Cards can now provide useful contact information.

In a bid to increase Snapchat's daily user engagement and foster more spontaneous discovery, the app is honing in on Yelp territory.

The new feature is meant to drive marketing value for restaurants and venues while pushing toward a culture catering to genuine interest.

Marketing inspires usage

Similar to Snapchat’s paid marketing campaigns, Context Cards can provide links to stories from publishers, revealing info related to Snapchat partners like Foursquare, Goop, Michelin, TripAdvisor, and more.

The new changes won’t appear on all snaps except those tagged with venue-specific Geofilters and snaps submitted to the public through ‘Our Story’ feed appearing on Snap Map or in searches.

Context Cards follow a waterfall-like feed leading with basic info and ratings sourced through marketing partners. The addition of context may help Snapchat grow their platform and strengthen usability while maintaining its core layout.

Are you ready for more context in Snapchat? Would you be inclined to market through Context Cards? Give us your thoughts in our comment section below.
