It's been a busy month for Facebook. Earlier this week the platform muscled in on Twitter's territory by cosying up to broadcasters. Now Facebook has made a move on LinkedIn's turf with a new update aimed at job seekers.
Apply within
Facebook now lets users add professional skills to their profile.
Once users add their professional skills, Facebook provides links to pages related to the skill-sets they have entered.
Users are also shown Facebook friends with similar skills, related pages, groups and non-Facebook friends with comparable interests.
Importantly, if a user allows their Facebook profile to be tagged with a professional skill it will make them more discoverable to prospective employers.
Like or LinkedIn
Whether this update will make much of a dent in LinkedIn remains to be seen.
Privacy concerns see many users not publicly discoverable on Facebook, meaning prospective employers won't have access to the greatest number of candidates by exclusively scouring Facebook.
If nothing else, the update shows Facebook isn't resting on its laurels – and is busy keeping the other platforms on their toes.
