Facebook is about to launch new look column ads – that will most likely cost marketers more money.
Let's face it
Facebook announced the news in a blog post, explaining its redesigned right column ads had performed significantly better than current units.
The new format means fewer ads in the right hand column, and higher prices to appear there.
“We recognize that this may be an unwelcome development for some businesses, particularly those that count raw impressions as an overall indicator of success for their campaigns.
“However, it is our belief that the overall value delivered through this more engaging ad format will offset any potential decreases in impressions,” the company wrote.
Up the ante
While not every marketer might agree with Facebook's reasoning that the new ads justify the price hike, there's not a lot they will be able to do about it.
For the foreseeable Future, Facebook has 1.28 billion reasons why it's in the position to command prices.
