Rumours about Twitter's music app, which have been swirling about for the better part of the year, are about to be confirmed.
Rock 'n' tweet
In 2012 Twitter acquired Australian music discovery service We Are Hunted, and last Friday set up a microsite showing the platform's logo next to the hashtag #music.
The page invites users to sign in and allow the application access to their Twitter account.
Sound of social
While details remain sketchy, it's a safe bet to assume the iOS app will work by recommending music based on who users follow on Twitter.
Given Twitter's 200 million plus users, that's a lot mixed tapes.
The move makes sense for Twitter. Music discovery is a big business, with Spotify's music library valued at US $3 billion and MySpace recently re-launching based around social sharing.
Fame the musical
At the moment the Twitter music app is only available to 'influencers' such as Ryan Seacrest.
The rest of us will have to sit tight for another few days to hear, or tweet, the music.
