Google has launched Home Hub—a ‘Made by Google’ product that is set to rival Amazon Echo and Facebook Portal. But what is its potential reach?
Three contenders
The three major player for in-home smart devices are the same for online ad distribution. Facebook and Google go without saying and—as we recently reported—Amazon is now the third ranked online ad platforms.
Which platforms you operate on could go some way to defining how many loungerooms your display ads appear in.
Low price & zero cameras
At AU$219, Google’s Home Hub is relatively cheap. The new gen Amazon’s Echo Show is close to AU$350.
Facebook’s Portal will be around $300, while the Portal+ will be closer to AU$500. Despite not even being available is Australia yet, the latter is already copping stick from the AFR.
The Echo and Portal devices have a camera. The Home Hub does not.
From a content distribution perspective, cameras don’t matter. But, the distinction may help further segment the market.
Anyone wanting s a Jetsons-style video phone won’t go for a device that is sans camera. But, that may be balanced by folks who are hesitant about how embedded cameras will intrude on their privacy.
Will the relative popularity of home smart screens have any impact on which marketing platforms you choose to focus?
