SMK’s app of the week: VSCO Cam

With the public’s appetite for social photos showing no signs of abating, it’s more important than ever for brands to be posting quality pics across their platforms.

The good news is that you don’t have to a professionally trained photographer to start churning out A-Grade images. Sometimes all you need is a clever app like VSCO Cam.

Say Cheese

VSCO Cam is a sleek iOS and Android app that lets users create, edit and share their snaps via  smartphone or tablet.

While the app has been around since 2013, it’s steadily released a series of updates adding more photographic muscle for users.

The latest, version 4.1, has been optimised for iPad and gives users access to a bunch of advanced camera controls including manual focus, shutter speed, white balance and exposure compensation.

Photogenic

Once you've taken your photo, VSCO Cam's souped up editing suite gives full control over elements including side-by-side comparisons (so you can see how different filters stack up), and the ability to apply one set of edits to multiple images.

You can also synch your photos across devices.

Send it out

Once you've finished and ready to share there are several options.

While VSCO Cam does have its own network for sharing photos, it's relatively small compared to Instagram. However the app allows you to easily share images through all the major platforms.

While compatibility with YouTube, SoundCloud and Vimeo is in the works.
