SMK’s app of the week: WordPress

WordPress is probably the world's best blogging platform, both for its versatility and ease of use.

And as part of its clever offering WordPress provides a useful app that allows you to publish, edit and moderate blog posts on the go.

Word up

While you can access the backend of your WordPress site using a browser on a mobile device, the experience is a bit clunky.

By contrast the newly upgraded WordPress app provides a clean interface that allows you to make changes easily.

We found the iPad app much easier to manage than its iPhone counterpart, but this was due to space constrictions rather than different functionality.

Manage and moderate

While the app doesn't cater for every WordPress feature or allow plug-ins, it covers all the major bells and whistles you'll need when on the move.

These include managing blog posts and moderating comments, especially handy when you need to post about breaking news or respond to comments in a timely manner.

Blog all about it.

The app also allows you to see how your blog post will appear in browsers before publishing, and features a side bar with all the desktop functionality including links to posts, pages, comments and analytics.

You can also follow other blogs via the app, and if you're feeling inspired you can even create a WordPress blog from the app itself!

Best of all, like WordPress itself the app is free. To find out more visit wordpress.org/mobile
