Twitter takes a leaf from Pinterest’s playbook

Twitter is testing two new pages that intend to change the way users interact and share products.

Visionary?

Twitter announced the new pages, Produce and Place Pages and Product and Place Collections, in a blog post

"It can be challenging to find and engage with the most relevant Tweets, images and videos about products and places when you’re looking for them.

"So today we’re beginning to test two ways to make it easier for you to discover rich and relevant content about products and places on Twitter," wrote Product Manager Amaryllis Fox.

Product and Place Pages

Product and Place Pages feature images and videos about featured products, along with information about price, description, how to buy, and related websites.

For example, a recently published book might show images of the book, links to the author's Twitter account, related tweets, news updates, related content and where the book can be purchased.

Product and Place Collections

The Collections feature allows users to create and share Twitter collections about both products and places – similar to Pinterest.

Users can also browse collections from a select number of curators, which Twitter says will expand over time.

Collections can be accessed via the Search bar on mobile or twitter.com, then selecting the category-based menu below it.

Mo' money

Twitter says this is just the beginning of a new push into more personalised product feeds for users, with more expected in the coming months.
