Twitter has just released a new design that makes its web presence more consistent with Twitter's mobile apps.
Pop up and out
From today Twitter.com gets rid of the pop-up compose window in favour of a new inline compose box on the left hand side.
Those with a soft spot for the old pop up box can still access it via the 'new tweet' button on the right hand side, and a keyboard shortcut.
The update also includes a beefing up of the settings menu, which now allows users to add accent colours to their profile.
Less is more
By making it easier to compose tweets the update may encourage Twitter users who do not tweet, sometimes referred to as lurkers, to join in the conversation. Some figures claim 40 per cent of Twitter's active users do not tweet.
And of course the update also brings Twitter's web presence more in line with its iOS and Android apps, which is where most tweeting continues to occur.
