For the first time in eight years, Google is launching a new fleet of Google Street View vehicles, complete with brand-new cameras that promise to upgrade the images we see of Aussie roads.
Top tech on the block
Google’s new fleet will be equipped with new cameras and top-shelf technology. They reckon this will let them get higher quality images, with sharper details and better results in low-light locations.
Imagery from the new fleet’s tours will start to make its way online before the end of 2018.
How Street View fits
Google Street View is a remarkably expansive gallery of 360-degree images that shows what can be seen at street level.
It integrates tightly with Google Maps: if you zoom in all the way on a map location—beyond the most detailed bird’s-eye view—Maps will transitions to show a Street View image, where one is available. And Street View images are available for more places than you might expect.
Google says Street View is accessed ‘millions of times every day by people looking to explore the world, to preview places before they go, or virtually experience places they might never have the chance to visit in person.’
Has Google Street View changed the way businesses should think about their street frontage?
