Voice-only is so 2015. WhatsApp has just joined 2016 and rolled out its own video-calling feature.
Say my name
WhatsApp's 1 billion users on iOS, Android, and Windows can now video chat with one another to their heart's content.
The feature brings WhatsApp closer into line with Facebook's other superstar child, Messenger.
It's also the latest in a series of updates from WhatsApp, which has recently been trialling a Snapchat-style feature that lets you draw over and add stickers to images.
Talk it up
While the update is a clear move up against rivals such as Skype and Apple's FaceTime, it poses a possible conundrum of Facebook.
How to balance the needs of WhatsApp, Messenger and Instagram (which is rumoured to be planning video chat soon) without cannibalising each another.
Video chat is now available globally on WhatsApp.
