YouTube clamps down on copyrighted music

YouTube has just released a new audio library that informs content creators about the consequences of using copyrighted music in their videos.

Music musings

YouTube announced the news in a blog post, explaining the update will give creators more clarity around what can and cannot be used.

"Starting today, you can search the YouTube Audio Library to determine how using a particular track in your video will affect it on YouTube, specifically if it will stay live on YouTube or if any restrictions apply," YouTube wrote.

Sounding off

While YouTube has long used its Client ID system to scan (and remove) videos containing copyrighted music, now creators will be informed ahead of time whether their music passes muster.

For example, if you use the song Boom Clap from Charlie XCX, YouTube will show ads from the artist on your video.

With video becoming an increasingly attractive option for brands, the YouTube Audio Library will make it easier to avoid any pitfalls when creating your mini movie masterpiece.
