Wire is a messaging app that sells itself on privacy and security. Heretofore, its sold itself as a ‘private messenger’, but now it’s targeting the enterprise space.
Consumers to collaborators
They’re calling it Teams. It promises end-to-end encryption of chats, calls and shared files for people who work together.
At the moment, the download links on the Teams page go to the same page as the consumer targeted services. So, the Teams service may be going to run as an integrated function within the consumer app.
Of course, they could easily switch that and launch a separate app if and when it’s ready.
Why is Wire important?
Whether you’ve heard of it or not, Wire is not a small indie app. Backed by Janus Friis, who co-founded Skype, it has some genuine cred.
If it is looking to monetise and doing this by targeting enterprise customers, it is likely to be something we hear more about as time goes on.
Join Teams
Currently, Wire’s new Teams are only in beta, but it is an open beta. That means you can apply to be a part of it.
To do so, visit their sign-up page at teams.wire.com.
With Wire’s reputation for security and encryption, will your company look at it as a genuine alternative to your current enterprise messaging solution?
