While Facebook is closing in on 2 billion users, how many of them can you realistically reach?
Potentially a whole lot more now, thanks to Facebook’s AI brushing up its language skills.
Me Gusta
Facebook Messenger’s assistant, dubbed M, can now make recommendations in Spanish. If M notes that a user composes text is Spanish, it will switch to this language.
For example, M might suggest its payment feature when discussing money with friends, or maps when looking for directions.
The update comes two months after recommendations launched in English.
More the merrier
The update comes as Facebook gradually expands into other tongues, such as the multilingual sharing button for Pages.
The feature, which lets brands publish in one language, while the post appears in a user’s native language, has been used by over 800 million people so far.
While giants like Skype now offering real-time translation for video calls, expect more multilingual capabilities for Facebook and Messenger soon.
