Facebook’s been teasing us for months about whether or not it will allow GIFs in comments.
Now it’s relented, and to celebrate the 30th birthday of the GIF Facebook has opened the floodgates.
The GIF that keeps on GIFing
When composing a Facebook comment there’s now a new GIF button, right next to the emoji icon,
In similar fashion to Messenger, pressing the button will open Facebook’s ever-increasing library of GIFs sourced from Giphy, Disney, and Tenor.
Fine print
Yet you can’t exactly GIF until you drop. So you can’t upload a GIF, or post your favourite GIF's URL with your comment. You’ll just have to rely on Facebook’s stash for now.
While Facebook was pretty late to the GIF party, users can’t get enough GIF time. Last year 13 billion GIFs were sent on Messenger, or around 25,000 every minute.
In fact, GIF use on Messenger has increased threefold in the past year. While on New Year’s Day alone, 400 million GIFs were sent.
Are you a GIF-lover? Let us know your favs in the Comments 😉
