Mobile mogul, TV titan, News Feed ninja: Facebook might be many things, but it's never been that sporty.
Until now…
Goalies
Facebook has secured a deal that will see the platform live streaming 22 Major League Soccer (MLS) matches.
The matches will be called by Facebook commentators, and come packaged with additional content such as interactive graphics and videos, as well as polling features and fan Q&As.
There will also be "Matchday Live" shows posted on the MLS Facebook Page.
Offside?
Facebook retains the rights to stream the entire MLS season in English, while matches will be broadcast on Univision in Spanish.
Facebook's live streams will be available on desktop and mobile, however camera angles will be optimised for mobile viewing.
Sporting chance
The move comes after Twitter live streamed matches from Wimbledon, the NFL, and NBA playoffs.
It also fits with Facebook's broader plans of moving into live streaming and content creation.
Will the AFL or Rugby eventually migrate from networks onto our News Feed? We're betting that would be a match worth watching.
