YouTube Go gets smarter for data

Google plans to release an app that will allow users to download and share video content offline for the first time ever, thanks to YouTube Go.

Break the shackles of streaming, if you want

Streaming will still be available to users but now they will have the option of Wi-Fi downloads, saving videos to be viewed later.

However not all content will be available. Presently, the app boasts a large but limited archive of downloadable videos.

In addition, offline viewing will only be offered in standard definition, which may divide some adopters.

The sharing function is a new initiative on behalf of YouTube as well. Wi-Fi hotspots will enable data-conscious consumers to trade videos in a more tangible way.

For many, Wi-Fi is readily available at home or in the workplace, making the more direct functionality a redundancy, however this may be the mark of Google’s intent.

YouTube Go may be ideal for users on a budget, or traveling with limited data.
