It might have been something Jerry and George could have mused if Seinfeld was still running.
Do emojis ever belong in the office environment? LinkedIn thinks it has the answer.
Thumbs up
In its Career Expert Series, LinkedIn has released a Dos and Dont's list of using emojis at work.
First of all, LinkedIn recommends being guided by your company's culture.
For example, if you're working at a law firm, ending litigation letters with a smiley face might not be appropriate.
Less is more
LinkedIn also cautions against overuse of emojis. It's better to think of them like exclamation marks.
Also, consider your platform. Emojis can work well on private work messaging apps like Slack, but not so much on email.
Pepper your correspondence with too many emojis, and you might not be taken seriously. If you're the boss, be aware that using emojis can set the tone for your employees.
Do you speak emoji?
Finally, never use an emoji unless you understand what it means, or could imply.
With new emojis being released all the time, this can be a challenge. If you need help, check out Emojipedia.
