It turns out Instagram wasn't the only Facebook-owned app looking to Snapchat for inspiration.
Snap happy
WhatsApp has just received an update adding text, emoji and drawing tools for its users to get creative and add some colour to their conversations.
The app has also gained the ability to use a bright screen as a flash for the front camera, as well as zoom features for taking photos and filming videos.
Far and wide
While Snapchat brought the light editing tools to the mainstream, the feature will be new to many as WhatsApp has over a billion users across the world compared to Snapchat's 150 million.
The features are in the latest update to WhatsApp's Android app, while they will be available on iOS soon.
