Twitter embraces 360 video

While 2016 initially looked like the year of emojis, it may well end up being the year 360-degree video took hold.

After a bit of hesitation, Twitter is finally joining the party.

Roll on

Twitter now supports the newish format, across both desktop and mobile.

The announcement comes at the start of the NBA finals, with Twitter showing highlights captured with the Samsung Gear.

To view a 360-degree video, you click and drag across the screen, either with your finger or a mouse.

The functionality is similar to Twitter's recently launched ScratchReels.

It also brings the platform into line with Facebook and YouTube, which are both big 360-degree video advocates.

Expect more platforms to support the format before the year's out.
