Chrome was a long time coming to the Google stable. In fact, Google CEO Eric Schmidt was opposed to Google developing its own browser for years.
However after Google poached developers from rival Mozilla to build a Chrome prototype, Schmidt changed his mind and Chrome was released in September 2008 in 43 languages.

In November 2011 Chrome overtook Mozilla and today is the most popular browser on the planet, accounting for almost 35% of all internet searches.
This places Chrome ahead of Internet Explorer (33%) and Mozilla (22%)
In fact, Chrome is responsible for directing over 14% of the entire internet's traffic.
Global appeal
On a typical day Chrome is used by 43% of internet users worldwide.
Interestingly, only 34% of US users access Chrome, the lowest relative percentage in the world.
