Google is reportedly working on a new feature that bakes Live Chat into search.
Chatterbox
According to Tech Crunch, when some users search for a service on Google.com, a new link appears advising which related businesses are available for a live chat. Additional information such as location, opening hours and reviews is also displayed.
If a business is available, users can start chatting through launching Google Hangout on either desktop or mobile.

While it's currently in beta, the new service could potentially be beneficial for users wanting to check with retailers about items in stock, or for example restaurant bookings.
It could also potentially help businesses cut down on customer service costs while providing more direct access to clients. We'll just have to wait and see.
