Vine continues to be the wunderkind of social media platforms.
Back in January Twitter introduced Vine as its video partner, allowing users to create and share looping videos six seconds or less in length. Since then Vine has become something of a phenomenon, even getting its own category at the Tribeca Film Festival.
The fairytale continues: last week Vine finally was released on Android and within five days topped Instagram for sharing on Twitter.
Video worth 1000 Instagram pics?
The data comes from analytics service Topsy, which reveals links to vine.co were shared over 2.5 million times on Twitter, compared to 2.2 million links to instagram.com.
Photo finish
However, the data isn't necessarily so clear cut. Facebook-owned Instagram recently withdrew its support for Twitter cards, making it difficult for users to automatically share their photos on Twitter. Instagram has also been beefing up its web profile in an effort bid to keep users with its eco-system.
On the other hand, Twitter owns Vine and makes it easy for Vine users to share and tweet.
Mobile video
The figures also reveal the growing influence of Android, which now accounts for 51.2 per cent of the US mobile market, compared to 45.4 for iOS.
As the gap widens 2013 might be the year of video and Android, all powered by the growing behemoth that is mobile.
