Facebook Cracks Down on Dubious Activity

Facebook is continuing its crusade against so-called fake news with the release of the platform's latest cybersecurity mission statement.

Earning trust

In an effort to strengthen the reliability of authentic connections made through Facebook, a new policy is curtailing accounts created to deliberately mislead or manipulate users.

Facebook has already cracked down on suspicious Groups, Pages, and accounts across the UK, Russia, the Middle East, and the US. It's worth noting the majority of transgressors are non-political.

The most common type of spam has been false products and fake remedies, often channeled through clickbait articles.

Hiding in the rhetoric

As most fake ads and articles excel at camouflaging themselves as creditable pieces, Facebook’s cybersecurity focuses in behaviour and content as a whole.

Facebook recently removed 251 disingenuous accounts and 559 Pages that consistently broke the new rules imposed against spam and inauthentic behavior.

There’s nothing wrong with Pages and accounts working together but when these connections are not apparent eyebrows begin to raise. It appears honesty really is the best security policy.

Have you noticed any Pages or accounts disappear? What do you think about the new cybersecurity policies? Let us know in the comments.
