Facebook is going to be receiving location data from Instagram users, and not everyone's happy about the news.
Trust is tricky
Now that Instagram’s founders have resigned, Facebook has ben spotted playing with a new prototype for privacy settings.
Instagram location history will soon belong to Facebook, which means GPS coordinates would feed information to Facebook to help with advertising demographics.
Geo-tagged data would be held from your Facebook Profile’s Activity Log, which may include detailed daily maps of physical locations you’ve visited.
Too much value?
Now that Adam Mosseri, close friend to Mark Zuckerberg, is the new head of Instagram, some have speculated this could mean squeezing more revenue out of Instagram.
Creating value out of a platform is nothing new, but let's hope for everyone's sake notification spamming, intrusive ads, and data mining is kept in check.
You can expect Snapchat will be keeping a close eye on proceedings.
What are your thoughts on Facebook data mining from Instagram? Is this a nefarious turn or just marketing as usual? Let us know in the comments below.
