Never one to sit on its laurels regardless of the time of year, Facebook is working on at least two new interesting features over the silly season: Red Envelopes and Breaking News.
Red Letter Day?
According to Recode, Facebook’s red envelope is a payment service that lets users send money to their friends. Red envelopes are traditionally exchanged as gifts on holidays such as Chinese New Year.
A similar service is already available on Messenger, but not on Facebook itself.
Perhaps it could work in conjunction with Facebook Marketplace.
News about news
The other test will potentially allow publishers to add a Breaking News tab, to help current content stand out a little taller.
Despite allegations of fake news, Facebook is increasingly becoming the place users go for their news fix. Indeed, a recent Pew study revealed 45% of US adults turn to Facebook for their news fix.
