BitTorrent has just launched BitTorrent Now, a new service that streams video and music while serving up ads to pay the bills.
Stream machine
BitTorrent Now works in a slightly different way from existing streaming sites. Instead of casting as wide a net as possible, the platform only features work from content creators who sign up to the service.
This will presumably lead to higher quality content, and less kitten videos.
UE
Users can access most of BitTorrent Now's content for free, as long as they view pre-roll ads. You can also opt to pay to watch videos and listen to albums ad-free.
Artists will receive between 70% – 90% of revenue generated from ads on the platform, depending on whether content is placed behind a paywall or not.
We'll do it live
The platform is the latest in a line of BitTorrent updates, as it seeks to branch out from its peer-to-peer service origins.
Other recent additions include Synch file storage and Live multi-channel video broadcasting.
