This week marks the fifth birthday of eBay's app, and the latest figures show Australian consumers can't get enough of buying on mobile.
Mo' money
In a statement announcing the anniversary, eBay revealed that Australians spend more as a percentage of sales on mobiles than any other market.
And Aussies like to shop in all sorts of places: 32 per cent report they shop while watching a movie, 17 per cent during a meeting and 14 per cent at a birthday party.
Some shopping tragics have to feed their addiction in the shower (13 per cent) while one in five found inspiration on the toilet.
“Australians are some of the savviest shoppers in the world. In 2013, we predict that $20 billion worth of transactions will take place through the eBay App globally –33 times more than the $600 million in 2009,” said eBay Australia & New Zealand’s Director of Buyer Experience, Nicolette Maury,
App and away
Half of eBay's total revenue now comes from multi-screen users. With Australians among the highest users per capita of smartphones in the world, it doesn't look like our thirst for shopping and mobile will cool anytime soon. You can bid on that.
