Facebook Groups may not be the most high-profile feature on the social network, but that doesn’t mean Facebook isn’t trying to make you love Groups that little bit more.
A new Discover feature is aimed at helping users find like-minded individuals.
Group Think
Facebook Groups are communities of Facebook users united by a common interest. For example, French bulldogs, hiking, or stamp collecting. You name it, there’s probably a Facebook Group for it.
But until now it hasn’t been so easy to find fellow Facebookers who share your passion for say, antique cutlery.
Location lubbers
The Discover feature uses data including your interests, friends, and geographical location to suggest Groups for you. You can also scan public and private Groups to see which friends are members.
You can also perform a manual search for Groups from pre-selected topics, such as sports and food.
Data divers
The update could help marketers looking to connect with niche interest groups.
As platforms acquire larger clumps of data and targeting becomes more specific, expect to see more of these recommendation features popping up.
Twitter recently rolled out a Connect tab, which analyses your tweets, location and followers to suggest new accounts.
