Forbes and the Wall Street Journal are reporting that Facebook has its sights set on LinkedIn’s dominant position as a social recruitment tool.
Since going public in May, Facebook shares haven’t performed as well as many had predicted and this development—though still unconfirmed by Facebook—makes sense as the social network looks to generate new revenue streams.
According to the Forbes report, “Facebook Jobs will be an aggregator which pulls in job postings by third party providers and makes them available in one place.”
There are already a number of recruitment and job listing apps like BranchOut and Glassdoor that make use of Facebook’s social reach, and reports suggest these won’t be abandoned with the introduction of Facebook Jobs (rumoured to be as early as August).
Instead it appears Facebook will work with these existing apps to create a comprehensive jobs posting and recruitment section that will utilise its enormous amounts of user data.
While some commentators are sceptical that people will want their professional and personal lives so closely intertwined via social media, when considering Facebook's 900 million monthly users to LinkedIn’s 150 million, it’s safe to assume LinkedIn might be a little nervous if Facebook Jobs becomes a reality.
