Facebook is trialing a new feature making it easier to find local news from credible outlets.
Read all about it
Select users will now see a "Today In" feed appear in the Facebook app. The feed contains information, events, and announcements about local news.
All news outlets appearing in the feed must be approved by Facebook's recently formed News Partnerships team.
At the moment "Today In" is limited to six US cities, with users in these areas able to receive notifications and emergency updates from local authorities.
Circuit breaker
"Today In" is part of the Facebook's Journalism Project, launched in response to the flood of alleged fake news amidst the US presidential election.
The feature could help drive more traffic to local publishers, while giving users access to higher-quality news sources. If it takes off expect a wider launch this year.
