Instagram is partnering with easyJet to get the best flight deals fast.
Easy ridin’
A new search function within easyJet’s flagship app allows users to search locations with the use of Instagram pictures with a feature called Look&Book.
At the moment Look&Book only works with Instagram, but will partner with other picture-sharing platforms, such as Pinterest and Snapchat, down the track.
How it works
Users have to upload a screengrab from Instagram directly to the easyJet app, while Look&Book will use image-recognition software to ascertain the location.
EasyJet also uses Microsoft’s Azure API to auto-fill booking fields. According to easyJet, “We’re doing a gradual launch over the next six to eight weeks, where we’ll see spikes in traffic,” but expect big returns.
Tying services to social apps and camera capabilities is a growing trend, and becoming the standard – at least with millennials. EasyJet may be top of a burgeoning market. The new feature is Available on iOS but expected to expand.
