Instagram has released its first ever usage figures, and numbers look promising.
Engaged, active, growing
Instagram revealed it has 90 million Monthly Active Users, while 40 million photos are uploaded every day.
But its the engagement levels of Instagram users that is truly impressive. The photo-sharing platform currently clocks up 8500 Likes and 1000 comments per second.
To put this in context, Facebook has 37,037 combined Likes and comments every second. The fact that Instagram is mobile-only makes these figures more remarkable.
New terms of service
Instagram faced a consumer backlash last year when it changed its terms of service, hinting that user's data would be shared with other platforms and may appear in advertising material.
The ensuring uproar caused Facebook-owned Instagram to back peddle and redraft its terms, which will be rolled out this week with increased privacy safeguards.
Instagram faced further flack in December when it shut off support for Twitter Cards, meaning Instagram users could no longer post images directly to Twitter from their Instagram account.
However, if these figures are anything to go by, it seems Instagram has weathered the PR storm and is on track for an even bigger 2013.
