DIGITAL MARKETING NEWS

LinkedIn passes 300 million mark

LinkedIn has just passed a major milestone: 300 million users and counting.

Slow and steady

LinkedIn revealed the news in a blog post and released an infographic to commemorate the occasion.

The company announced that while it has 100 million members in the US, most LinkedIn users come from the 200 other countries the platform operates in.

India, Brazil, Great Britain and Canada are LinkedIn's biggest markets outside of the US, while the company continues to grow in China.

Mobile movement

Perhaps unsurprisingly, close to half of LinkedIn's traffic now comes from mobile. Three years ago this figure was 8 per cent.

Over a typical day LinkedIn sees 15 million profile views, 1.45 million job views and 44,000 job applications via mobile.

To capitalise on the mobile move, LinkedIn has five apps covering areas including contacts, content and recruitment.

Industry movement

Five years ago the top industries represented on LinkedIn were Information Technology and Services, Computer Software, Financial Services, Marketing and Advertising and Telecom.

Now the top industries are Information Technology and Services, Hospital and Health Care, Construction, Education Management and Accounting.

Even stevens

LinkedIn also revealed that its user base is evening out when it comes to the sexes. Five years ago 61 per cent of LinkedIn users were male, compared to 39 per cent female.

Today this split is 56 per cent male to 44 per cent female.
