Video has long been hard currency on Facebook, now Instagram is getting into the game with the announcement that video views are coming soon.
Instagram brok the news in a blog post.
"In the coming weeks, we’re rolling out video views on Instagram. As a widely expected industry metric for video, we believe video views are the best measure of viewer intent.
"And we often hear from our community they’d like to better understand how people are engaging with their videos."
Video first rolled out on Instagram in 2013, with video ads becoming available last year. At first video ads were restricted to 15 and 30 seconds. Now they can extend up to 60 seconds.
Over the last six months video views on Instagram has increased by 40%.
Instagram's video counts will be available in the coming weeks, but brands should note they don't include looping videos, and views under three seconds.
