As the trend of vertically-shot mobile video continues to grow across social media, YouTube is adapting its player.
Can’t beat ‘em? Join ‘em
YouTube for PC is embracing the new format of keeping your mobile phone upright when filming, and will be providing stronger vertical support for upright videos.
Don’t worry, the answer is not the dreaded cropping of black bars. Instead YouTube will enlarge the video to cut down on wasted viewing space.
So far users seem to be happy with the additional support to tailor the newish format for horizontal viewing, which has since been gaining momentum.
Rise of the Vert
For ages, when cameras were first added to our mobile contraptions, horizontal filming was just how things were done.
Now the trend is swining towards vertical, as it mirrors the natural way of holding a smartphone.
Whether you think it looks better or not is a matter of taste, but either way YouTube has you covered.
What do you think about YouTube’s pivot to adapt horizontal video? Does the trend make sense to you? Let us know in our comments.
