Could Amazon Go be a game changer for Retail?

After being in development more than four years and in beta most of 2016, Amazon Go might be coming to a shop near you soon.

Close the pod bay doors

Go is an app that lets users enter a store, complete their shopping, and walk out the door. All without having to interact with anyone.

The system works through a clever range of sensors and tech that tracks products as they’re taken off shelves and added to a virtual shopping cart.

Once the shopping list is ticked off, a bill is sent to your Amazon account.

Easy does it

For now, Go is only available in one location at a food store in Seattle, custom built for the service.

More pop-up shops are planned in the US and further afield in 2017.

While Amazon tinkers with new ideas spanning drones to TV shopping shows, Go provides a glimpse into how retail may look in the not-too-distant future.

If Go's better at detecting items in the bagging area than current self check-outs, we’re all for it.
