LinkedIn is dipping its toe in the lucrative freelancer market with a new service called ProFinder.
Pro tips
ProFinder is a pilot program aimed at professionals working in the spiritual home of freelancers: the San Francisco Bay Area.
It works like this: employers post job details on ProFinder, which is separate from LinkedIn’s existing “Job Search. ProFinder then displays the top candidates based on metrics including skill sets and recommendations.
To help refine the search, candidates are also vetted by an internal team at LinkedIn.
Widen the net
While there are existing freelancer services such as Upwork and Thumbtack, none of these has close to LinkedIn’s 380 million-strong user base.
One recent study found that 53 million people, or 34% of the US workforce considered themselves freelancers – a rise of 700,000 since 2014.
With job recruitment services being LinkedIn’s biggest money earner, tapping into the growing pool of freelancers could prove lucrative for LinkedIn.
