Instagram has moved another step closer to the web by allowing the full Instagram feed to appear online, exactly the way it appears on a mobile device.
Web now working
A few months ago Instagram rolled out Web Profiles, which let users create a web presence for the front page of their Instagram feed.
In a blog post on Tuesday, Instagram co-founder Kevin Systrom announced that users logged into instagram.com would now be able to access the full Instagram experience.
“You can browse through the latest photos of people whom you follow with updates as people post new photos. Like photos by double clicking on them or pressing the like button. Or, engage in a conversation around a photo with inline commenting.
“Simply put, we’ve brought a simple, powerful, and beautiful Instagram browsing experience to the web,” wrote Systrom.
Pretty as a picture
Instagram.com will also send email alerts when new photos are uploaded.
However Instagram isn't fully powering its web offering. Photos and filters can still only be added from a mobile device.
By opening itself up a little bit more to the web, Instagram is giving itself another avenue to attract more users – and more advertising space.
