Ahe social media age is well and truly upon us, and users are becoming younger and younger so Instagram is launching a parent’s guide to help ease the process and promote responsible use.
All grown up
Thanks to the Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act, Instagram does not allow users younger than 13 to join, but that doesn’t mean younger children aren’t curious.
When an eight-year-old asks what you are posting, why do you post and who are your followers, the explanation can be a bit complicated. And so enters the parent’s guide.
What’s in the guide?
The new walk-through will highlight key features such as private profiles, blocking, and reporting abusive behaviour as well as setting time limits for daily use. They can try.
Social media has become the new “awkward talk” it would seem, as all forms of maturity seem to be happening online and even more so out of the reach of parents.
From unwanted followers, to disappearing posts, and online bullying, there’s a lot for a parent to be concerned about which makes the parent’s guide a very smart idea. An educated parent is the first step towards an educated kid.
What do you think about kids inquiring about Instagram as young as eight? Are you interested in picking up a copy of the parent’s guide? Why or why not? Let us know in the comments below.
