After a long developer lead-in and extended public beta testing, Google is unveiling the ninth iteration of their mobile OS: Android 9 Pie.
First served
Publicly launched as of August, Android 9 initial roll-out prioritises Google’s own Pixel phones, who will get the stock Pie experiences within weeks.
A few other manufacturers are likely to push out Android 9 to their current gen devices before the end of 2018. Sony, Xiaomi, Nokia, Oppo Vivo and Essential have all already dipped their toes into the Pie, having offered users a chance to participate in the Android P Beta program.
Slices and actions
Because it’s 2018, Google is eager to boast about Android 9 Pie’s AI filling. They claim it’ll adjust automatically to your preferences, remembering actions and options for more intuitive app experiences and longer battery life.
For example, developers can make use of a new ‘Slices’ feature for slicker app engagement that doesn’t have to go full-screen to get instructions.
If you produce or manage apps for Android, make sure they’re Android 9 Pie compatible. Checkout the Android Developers official advice for migrating apps to Android 9, including recommended process to publish an updated version.
Have you tasted Android 9 Pie yet? In your personal experience, what’s the good, the bad and the clunky?
