G+ Streams easy embed into Google Sites

Google Sites are getting more social—that is, as social as Google+ is these days.

Getting into embed

In the same way that Google Sites have allowed for the insertion of Google Docs, YouTube clips, Drive files and maps, Sites users can now embed a stream from everyone’s favourite social media site, Google+.

At first, it might seem like an attempt to push Google+, but it actually functions quite well as a basis for fluid interactivity and collaboration.

Given its native status, the streams fully responsive and interactive, ready for anyone to comment or +1 their heart’s content.

Smooth insertion: how to

Get your stream ready first. Pick a Google+ community, collection, or profile stream. With community streams, you can actually go with the top-level stream, or set a specific community category stream.

So, in a browser, go to the Google+ page of the stream you want on your site. Look in the address bar and copy the URL.

Then, in your Google Sites interface, click ‘Embed’ in the right-side menu. In the field that opens for you, paste the copied URL then click ‘Insert’.

When you click ‘Publish’ at the top right, your change will become visible on your published Site.

Rather than heralding a resurgence for Google+, could this in fact signal a different application for it? Does it make you any more likely to be active on the platform?
