As part of a mid-year review of YouTube’s progress towards achieving their priorities in relation to content creators, they’ve announced a couple of forthcoming products to improve monetisation prospects.
Famebit expansions
The Google-owned portal for connecting brands and content creators, Famebit, claims excellent recent results. Over half of the channels that use it more than doubled their YouTube revenue in the first three months of the year.
Now, YouTube say they’re readying to launch integrations that will let video audiences shop directly from the creator’s watch page.
For content creators, this could mean commissions. For consumers, it’ll mean fewer clicks to complete a transaction. For marketers, it’s got a lot of potential.
Channel memberships
Channel Memberships will let consumers financially support their favourite content creators and get virtual perks to boot. For AU$5.99 per month, members get things like sponsor badges for their account and heightened visibility in live chat sessions.
Despite being announced as a new product, Channel Memberships are basically a rebrand of Sponsorships. The feature’s help page notes that it’s already finding traction for YouTube Gaming creators.
The rebrand may be a way to push it into the wider mainstream.
YouTube also announced some merch integrations, but they’re US only. Would merch options do better for you in Australia than channel memberships or Famebit expansions?
