Dawn of The Age of YouTube

Google-owned YouTube is being watched by 85% of teens amongst what may be a great shift in social media monopolies.

The new cool

In a recent study released by Pew Research Center, compiled from interviewing 700 teens across the world, the analytics have revealed that YouTube has over taken Facebook in popularity and use.

Pew also reported that Instagram trailed just behind at 72%, followed by Snapchat at 69%, and finally Facebook at a wilting 51%.

One interesting statistic was that Facebook still tended to be most popular, about 70%, with teens from households with an annual income of less than $30,000.

Too rich for the Zuck

Teens from households with an annual income of over $70,000 were less likely to engage Facebook which clocks in at only 36% even though 95% of all teenagers own their own smartphone.

According to the same report, 45% of teens admitted to being “online on a near-constant basis” with Snapchat and YouTube remaining the most popular apps.

Close to one third of teens surveyed said that it actually had positive effects, commending connectivity with friends and family as the main reason for engaging to begin with. The Facebook bubble may be about to pop.
