Facebook has launched an education campaign to help users better understand data usage and manage the core principles of privacy.
A guide to stronger privacy
Facebook has added how-to videos in News Feed, designed to help users customise their collected data, review and delete posts, and even delete accounts, all as part of the privacy push.
The popular social media network is also launching Privacy Checkup, along with privacy tips to help users assess the state of their own settings.
The campaign is the collaborative result of user feedback, privacy experts, and policy makers from around the globe, reflecting the social network’s evolving personal core principles.
The key topics of data privacy
This privacy initiative is tailored to focus on topics such as: who can see your posts, data collection, existing privacy tools, how data is kept secure, personal data management, accountability, and improvement.
The move for more transparency in data and privacy comes as a reaction to the past year’s criticisms of fake news and under the radar data usage.
As always, a bit of critical thinking goes a long way and many existing privacy tools are largely unknown to current users. Now with privacy education, will Facebook’s new endeavour make the grade?
Are you surprised by any of the privacy features? Do you think Facebook is take a step in the right direction? Give us your opinion in the comment section.
