Facebook's arguably know more about its users than any other platform. Now its tracking abilities are about to get more powerful.
The snoopy network?
According to a report in The Wall Street Journal, Facebook is about to launch an advertising platform dubbed Atlas.
Atlas will reportedly be able to follow Facebook users around the web, on any of their devices.
The data would presumably be used to build more robust user profiles for marketers.
Google challenge
Atlas will be Facebook's latest, and potentially most powerful, weapon as it seeks to compete with Google for web advertising.
While Google's ad revenue of US$14 billion eclipses Facebook's relatively modest US$2 billion, that figure could swing given Facebook's vast swathes of user data.
How users respond to Facebook's new snoopy powers is another matter.
