Snapchat has been tipped to go cold before Instagram even as it leads the way in 2016, a survey commissioned by Adweek has found.
Adweek, through Survata, asked 511 Instagram and Snapchat users aged 13-34 a series of questions about the two photo and video-sharing apps.
The majority of respondents (64%) said Snapchat is cooler than Instagram, though only 51.1% said they would choose Snapchat over Instagram if they could only keep one.
Instagram is more likely to be popular in five years' time than Snapchat, with the latter recording worse results for likelihood of remaining popular (26.8% to Instagram's 36.6%) and the world having moved on (27.4% to Instagram's 22.5%).
The results also suggest brands are up against it on both platforms, with 51.2% of respondents saying they hated or rarely noticed ads.
Snapchat ads are more forgettable, with 74% of users saying they do not remember seeing specific ads compared to Instagram's 62.6%.
Instagram hasn't been shy about the fact that it's in competition with Snapchat, and its two-year head start appears to have its benefits.
