Taking the carrot over the stick approach to new customer acquisition, Google has announced that Google Apps for Work is now free for certain customers.

In an official statement, Google explained that customers under an existing enterprise agreement with another provider are eligible for a free ride, until the contract expires.
Google is sweetening the deal by offering to contribute to deployment and set up costs, and claims switching can save customers up to 70% in fees.

It doesn’t take much reading between the lines to see Google is looking to poach customers from rivals Microsoft and IBM.
Microsoft recently made headlines for signing up former Google Apps customer GE in a deal that saw GE’s global workforce using Office 365.
At the moment the offer is only available to users in the US and Canada, but Google says a wider roll out is on the cards. Stay tuned.
