The Google Play console is set to give new tools to app admins managing subscription-based products.
Subs price management
Previously, to change a subscription’s price you had to set up an entirely separate category of product, albeit one populated with the same old stuff you had before.
The only difference between the categories was the fee to be charged. Then, get your subscribers to functionally cancel the old subscription and move to the new pricier one.
A newly unveiled price tweak feature greatly simplifies this process, reducing it to a tweak you can make directly through the Google Play Console.
Easy and transparent
Play will also handle subscription price change notifications for subscribers. It will reach out to them in-app, via email and with push notifications.
Subscribers will be given the chance to accept the new rate or—if they don’t click ‘accept’—they’ll be auto-unsubscribed.
Revisit your library
To use these new features, your app needs to be running with at-least the May update of the ‘Google Play Billing Library’. If you manage subscriptions on Android, you should definitely get it ASAP.
If you’re not there yet, or simply not sure, ask your app developer.
Do you find it easier to manage subscription products on Android or iOS?
